GenerLink Transfer Switch |

Portable Generator use Made Easy
It’s hurricane season, you just heard the weather forecast & it’s not good. You roll out your portable generator, fill the gas tank and start looking for your extension cords. You find and untangle your extension cords and then start routing them to the appliances you want to keep powered. You finally finish routing your extension cords, leaving some doors open because they cannot close and tell everyone to be careful, don’t trip over the cords.
Worse than the above scenario, you connect your generator to your circuit breaker panel, to power your circuits when the power goes out. This is a very dangerous practice that kills linemen restoring power, as electricity is back fed through the meter on to the power line.
Using the GenerLink Transfer Switch for Portable Generators neither of the above, annoying and dangerous actions will be taken. With GenerLink, when the power goes out you turn off all the circuits in your circuit breaker panel, connect the GenerLink power cord to the GenerLink unit attached to your meter, turn on your emergency circuits and start your generator according to your generator manufacturer’s instructions. Because your generator is feeding your circuits through the main panel, there is no need for extension cords running all over your home. (The above steps may differ depending on your generator but these are your basic steps. Consult your Generator Manual and GenerLink Manual for details.)
When the power comes back the green LED on the GenerLink will light. Turn off your generator, unplug the GenerLink and turn all your circuits back on. There is no back feed danger when using the GenerLink, therefore no lineman’s life is in danger & you avoid the liability. JEA, FPL & Clay Electric have all approved this device. Beaches Energy approval is pending at the time of this article. Can your generator be used with the GenerLink?” Review the Compatible Generator Guide.
Some portable generators do not put out a clean sign wave. This means the electricity being generated cannot be used for sensitive electronics such as computer and other devices. “Dirty electricity” can damage or destroy your electronics. Rather than buying a power conditioner, to try and clean up your electrical signal, a better quality generator, like those sold by American Electrical Contracting is the best solution.
Portable Generators Safety is something that should be taken very seriously. Carbon Monoxide gas (Co2), a byproduct of using generators, can kill you. However, by following the manufacturer’s instructions on generator placement, this serious consequence can be avoided. Additionally, the use of Carbon Monoxide Detectors, installed by American Electrical Contracting, Inc., provides an audible alarm, alerting all that this dangerous, colorless, odorless gas is present. In large homes it is important that your smoke & carbon monoxide detectors are all networked together. Even when using a loud alarm, in large homes, they may not be heard by those furthest away. When these systems are networked the alarm sounds everywhere, so everyone knows to get out & notify the Fire Department.
- THE GENERLINK IS A UL LISTED TRANSFER SWITCH.
- NO MORE TANGLED EXTENSION CORDS.
- NO MORE TRIPPING HAZARDS TO DEAL WITH.
- APPROVED BY JEA, FPL & CLAY ELECTRIC.
- COMES STANDARD WITH 20 FOOT POWER CORD.
- FOR SERVICES UP TO 200A SINGLE PHASE.
- SERVICES PORTABLE GENERATORS UP TO 10,000 WATTS.
- SAFE FOR UTILITY WORKERS; PROTECTS YOU FROM LIABILITY.

IPS12000 Indoor Generator |
|
|
|
|
The conventional Home Standby Generator will continue to be around for many years. Improvements in design and cost effective extended warranty from Generac, the leader in home standby generators, has brought down the cost of ownership by increasing reliability. However, if you live in Jacksonville, Fernandina or one of the other cities with condos, high rise / apartments or communities / business parks that do not permit the use of Standby Generators. PowerReady International has a solution for you.
The PowerReady™ IPS™12000 (Indoor Power System) is a silent, indoor, gas and emissions free, maintenance & installation free, portable emergency backup system suitable for residential or commercial use. Sold by American Electrical Contracting, Inc. of Jacksonville Florida, the IPS12000 features an automatic one-touch start & is ideal for all types of applications. It recharges in about 4 hours, when your power returns or via an optional indoor solar panel.
At $7995 it’s not for everyone but is a welcomed option to minimize business losses or to be comfortable in your condo during power outages. Why be frustrated on upper floors, or lower floors for that matter, with no power & no food, when you can own the IPS12000 and be cozy.
The IPS12000 rolls on heavy duty, floor friendly casters, and can be placed in many convenient locations in the home or office. For typical emergencies, IPS is ideal for powering important appliances like refrigerator and microwave in addition to providing lighting. With 12000 watts of power, operating in a survival mode, you can minimize the frustrations that come from living in a high rise with no options when power is lost.
If you own a business, your situation is similar to the home owner that is not allowed to use a standby generator. Delivering clean surge free electricity, the IPS12000 will safely power your computer, medical electrical devices and other sensitive electronics. When your power goes out your IPS 12000 acts like a UPS (Uninterruptable Power Supply) on steroids and keeps you powered so you can properly save computer files or complete printing that proposal to meet that deadline; or complete treating your patients.

How It Works
What makes the PowerReady™ IPS™ Unique? The PowerReady Indoor Power System (IPS) is unique because it bridges the gap between UPS systems, and automatic generators. Automatic generators require permits, professional installation, fuel, and maintenance. The IPS is ideal for indoor applications because of its silent operation and portability, making it ideal for homes, businesses and medical facilities.
Is it safe to use a generator indoors?
The PowerReady IPS is indoor approved, requires no fuel or maintenance and produces no polluting emissions… so it’s safe to use indoors and safe for the environment, your family, employees and customers! Pure Sine Wave Technology delivers sag and surge free, clean and uninterrupted power for medical equipment, computers and other sensitive electronics.
How is it powered?
The PowerReady IPS 12000 stores energy in 4 proprietary commercial grade batteries and will power necessities in a typical home for 4-5 days (based on 3000W per 24 hrs). For extended outages the PowerReady IPS Solar Panels (sold separately) can be plugged into the IPS for continuous, cost free and maintenance free power. When power returns, a full recharge typically takes 4 hours.
Does it need to be installed?
The PowerReady IPS comes with a standard wall outlet plug and requires no installation or permitting. Simply plug the PowerReady IPS into the wall outlet at your home or business and the unit will sense when the electricity has been turned off, and any appliance connected to the outlets will automatically start within one second or you can activate the IPS with the on/off button. Additionally, the PowerReady IPS can also be professionally connected to a load center by American Electrical Contracting, Inc. then automatically and remotely power your necessities during an outage at your home or business. The circuits you deem critical are connected to the load center. These are the circuits that will be powered when you lose utility power.
Where can I put the PowerReady IPS?
The PowerReady IPS is emission-free, about the size of a utility cabinet, and can be placed anywhere in your residence, business or medical facility. For best performance, it should be placed in a dry location with temperatures that stay under 84 Fahrenheit. Never place the PowerReady IPS outdoors.
What circuits can I power with the PowerReady IPS?
The PowerReady IPS can power most 120 volt household appliances. Connecting the PowerReady IPS to a load center affords more options, including the use of alarm systems, wired and outdoor lighting, ceiling and exhaust fans, garage door openers and more. However, in an emergency it is good practice to power what you actually need.
What maintenance does the PowerReady IPS require?
The PowerReady IPS has no moving parts and requires only an annual check, which can be performed by the owner, to ensure that the system is operating properly.
How can it be recharged?
When power returns, the PowerReady IPS will automatically begin recharging through the input plug connected to the wall outlet. The PowerReady IPS can also be recharged quickly with a gas generator or by connecting the (sold separately) PowerReady IPS Solar Panels, which use the sun to recharge the batteries as it is being used.
How long will the PowerReady IPS last with a Solar Panel?
Connecting the Solar Panels (sold separately) to the PowerReady IPS 12000 will afford approximately 12 days (based on 2000W of solar input a day) instead of 4-5 days (based on 3000W per 24 hrs) of power (from the battery) because the panels recharge the unit while it is being used. Unit also has a meter so you can see how many of your 12000 watts you have used and how many you have left.
How often will I have to replace the batteries in my PowerReady IPS?
PowerReady uses only the highest quality and longest lasting valve-regulated, sealed lead-acid batteries. Under typical usage, they will last 7-10 years before needing replacement.
American Electrical Contracting, Inc. will keep you powered but you must plan ahead. Contact American Electrical by submitting a request for service and get your IPS12000 on order. Financing is available.
