Residential Generator Installation Considerations

Installing a standby generator for your home is an important step. We understand this. So we provide you with the easiest process possible. Our experienced and friendly experts guide you through the total backup solution process, because buying a generator alone only gets you halfway to total security. We are certified installers of Generac and KOHLER generators.

The process starts by assessing your location’s needs based on the following criteria.

  • Generator Size – The generator size needed is based on which circuits you want to backup and your budget. You can choose to backup anything from a few emergency circuits to an entire home or building. We’ll work with you step-by-step to identify what parts of your home’s electrical system you want to keep running during an outage. Less systems can mean a smaller generator. This can save money, but might mean sacrificing some level of comfort.
  • Transfer Switch – A transfer switch is required to control your generator. You have the option to purchase an automatic or manual transfer switch. An automatic transfer switch senses when your utility power goes out and automatically starts the generator as well as stopping it when power returns. A manual transfer switch must be turned on and off as conditions dictate. A manual transfer switch can help reduce the cost of installation, but during a storm an automatic transfer switch makes the process seamless.
  • Fuel Source – Conventional generators use many fuel types: liquid propane, natural gas, or diesel. We will help you go through these options and manage the installation process for you. For instance, if we go with gas or electrical installations, we will ensure we get the right inspections from the city.
