The Green Zone

If you need an Electrical Contractor in Jacksonville or North East Florida for your LEED project contact American Electrical Contracting, Inc. We care about the environment and have been trained on how to implement green projects. We install energy efficient products, like florescent bulbs, electronic ballast, low voltage lighting, timers, motion sensors etc. These products and many others are designed to use electricity efficiently, saving money and the environment. We also recycle metal & cardboard in addition to using the technology we advocate like, fluorescent bulbs, motion sensors & recycled paper products.

While energy efficient products may cost more to purchase, they are cheaper to use and typically last a lot longer than older technology devices. In the electrical world, unless a product is designed to produce heat, heat is wasted energy. A compact florescent light bulb (CFL) operates substantially cooler than a incandescent bulb, while producing more light. In the near future LED (Light Emitting Diode) lighting will become the consumer’s choice and surpass CFL as consumers demand more green products without disposal issues. If you do not want CFL bulbs, saving energy can be as simple as dimming your standard incandescent bulbs with a regular dimmer switch. (Click for a Lutron Demo)

However, “Going Green” does not and should not stop with the consumer. Leviton Manufacturing a leader in the electrical products industry, has many automated, energy management products for residential and commercial use.  When you meet with your American Electrical Electrician, weather we are working on your home or your business, ask about our residential and commercial automation solutions.

As previously noted, money can be saved on home energy cost. However, more money can be saved by your business and the IRS will reward you. However you must beware of unscrupulous companies looking to take advantage of this green trend. Beware of products that claim to save a lot of money on your energy bill. In the business environment energy cost are a lot higher than homes for obvious reasons, especially in businesses with a lot of square footage and machinery. When energy saving commercial products, like lighting, is installed by American Electrical Contracting, we provide calculations of how much your business will save and how long it will take to recover your investment. For homes, unless you have a very large home with many electrical loads, the savings are not as dramatic and are typically estimated not calculated. Simply, for example, saving 10% on $20,000 monthly bill is a lot more dramatic than saving 10% on $300 monthly bill, which also affects your payback. That being said, there are millions of homes, so the cumulative effect of small consistent savings has a huge positive environmental impact even if your personal savings is not large.

While the sharp rise of oil prices made everyone “Think Green,” the fall of oil prices provides a false sense of security that all is well. Going green is not a fad and is not restricted to the USA. From hybrid cars to alternative power, for businesses & homes, going green represents mans actions and plans to work with the environment. The trend away from fossil fuels will continue, gaining substantial momentum as businesses learn how to profit from it and Governments around the globe demand it.

In addition to energy consumption, there are many other ways to help the environment. There are also steps you can take beyond energy consumption such as insulation, plumbing etc. It all starts with simply being more conscious of how you use your resources. Visit the links below and see how you can contribute to building a better environment through simple changes in your lifestyle. Sharp consumers use “Green” products, that’s why American Electrical Contracting says, “It’s Keen to be Green.”
