Behind the scenes at TIAA Stadium with American Electrical Contracting
Football season is finally here. We want to share with you some of the behind-the-scenes stuff we get to see as Jacksonville-based electricians. Since 2014, when the Jaguars play, we work to keep their world-class scoreboards up and running. We take the level of responsibility that the Jaguar Organization tasks us with very seriously. Those scoreboards must be 100% operational at all times during games. That is why we perform pre-checks and make needed repairs in the days leading up to a game. We also make sure to have factory trained electricians on-site for any emergency repairs.
This is a view of the stadium from the control room. It’s where the world’s largest LED scoreboards are monitored and controlled. Our electricians make sure that the LED modules are operational so that there are no blank pixels on the display.
When one is detected, we climb up into the board and find which horizontal row and vertical column the defective module is located at. We then disconnect the data feed and power supply, remove the old module and replace it with a new or repaired one. This operation is performed numerous times throughout the game to ensure a quality visual experience for the football fans.
This picture is a view from inside the North scoreboard looking out at the field. Our electricians have removed a defective LED module from the array and are installing a new one. We keep hundreds of the replacement LED modules in storage containers in each scoreboard. The defective LED modules are shipped to South Dakota to be refurbished and calibrated for proper color rendition. They are then shipped back to us and placed up in the scoreboard ready for use once again.
